Newport Folk Festival takes a different approach than most music fests by gradually unveiling artists as announcements roll in over time leading up to the event itself. This year’s lineup includes Lana Del Rey, My Morning Jacket and Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit among many others.

Classical music lovers will also appreciate this Colorado event, offering three chamber music series and public masterclasses within orchestral concerts. Pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet returns and maestro Teddy Abrams unveils a composer portrait.

Oregon Bach Festival

This year’s Oregon Bach Festival events center around Musical Wanderlust, and will transport listeners on an extraordinary musical journey across time and space. Aspen Music Festival

Jazz Aspen Snowmass (JAS) features 10 venues throughout Aspen throughout June for an inspiring weekend of jazz performances in 10 distinct venues. Grammy-winners and global jazz luminaries take the stage at Belly Up, Wheeler Opera House, 39 Degrees at W Hotel, Bad Harriet and more – featuring Grammy winners as well as global jazz luminaries!

Breaking Barriers’ initiative of 2018 focused attention on female conductors, with Mahler’s Symphony No 5 to Vaughan Williams’ Sea Interludes all being featured as examples of such. Pianist Yefim Bronfman, mezzo Sasha Cooke and violinist Augustin Hadelich’s performances added sparkle to these orchestral concerts at this festival.

Aspen Music Festival and School has long been offering recitals, classes and unique programs during its annual summer festival and school. Children will particularly enjoy Tunes and Tales: an interactive children’s musical storytime program; while adults may join Music on the Mountain outdoor chamber music series (at various ticket prices). Boston Lyric Opera

Cabrillo Music Festival

This summer (2023-24), the Cabrillo Music Festival offers something for everyone. Alongside its world-class orchestral program, this summer’s festival also includes jazz ensemble and chamber concerts featuring guest artists – such as San Francisco Symphony violinist Eunice Kim!

Maestro Macelaru will lead the festival orchestra in West Coast premieres of works composed by four composers with distinctive musical voices: Sarah Kirkland Snider’s tribute to American women suffragists, Jennifer Higdon’s Duo Duel for double percussion and cello, Sebastian Currier’s Track 8 which draws from Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony and Bora Yoon’s Wind of Two Koreas which was commissioned by the festival are among them.

Summerscape

The 2023-2024 season features pianist Brad Mehldau in an introspective recital that draws upon jazz, rock, electronica and pop influences; composer Tania Leon in her new position as Debs Composer’s Chair curating concerts at Carnegie Hall; the JACK Quartet from grayfade label showcase; as well as Tabea Zimmermann of Germany’s Kronberg Academy performing alongside singer-songwriter Kandace Springs of grayfade label showcase; in-the-round performances will include Dover String Quartet Dover String Quartet Belcea Quartet and the VC Artists among other outstanding ensembles.

Cincinnati May Festival

In 2023-24, the May Festival will continue its celebrated legacy of offering a concentrated repertoire of choral masterpieces complemented by educational and community engagement activities. Established five years before Music Hall opened its doors, this concert series stands as one of the longest-running concert series in Western Hemisphere; moreover it is also currently operating as one of the oldest choral festivals still operating today.

Juanjo Mena will lead the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus accompanied by Cleveland Orchestra Chorus under Lisa Wong, Cincinnati Youth Choir led by Robyn Lana, and Cincinnati Boychoir directed by Jason Holmes in Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, Symphony of a Thousand. According to Mahler himself, this work gives voice its rightful place.

JMR and The Pops usher in 2024 with sophisticated jazz stylings from Edward “Duke” Ellington.

Chicago Lyric Opera

Chicago was long known to love opera before it had its own company; Ardis Krainik built upon this foundation as Lyric’s general director. Her vision allowed Lyric to foster its main pillars while venturing into new artistic territory, drawing capacity houses and solidifying Lyric’s status as a company committed to twentieth-century opera.

Enrique Mazzola marked several groundbreaking premieres during 2023-24 under his charismatic music direction: Wagner’s Ghost Pirate thriller The Flying Dutchman; Leos Janacek’s operatic drama Jenufa featuring sopranos Lise Davidsen and Nina Stemme; A Wedding by Peter Sellars (based on its 1978 film version); Terence Blanchard’s Champion about boxer Emile Griffith, in its Lyric premiere performance.

Rossini’s Cinderella opens the season, featuring Vasilisa Berzhanskaya as Angelina and Jack Swanson as Ramiro alongside Alessandro Corbelli and Joshua Hopkins, in Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s production conducted by Yi-Chen Lin.

Maverick Concert Series

Maverick Concert Series, founded by legendary Woodstock artist Hervey White and held annually since 1970, is America’s oldest summer chamber music festival. For 2023’s season starting July 1 and running through Sept 10, you’ll experience classic, jazz and contemporary performances that range from classical works to jazz classics and more!

This summer, experience the majestic acoustics of an iconic venue like no other. Not only can you attend their regular Saturday evening concerts but this year also offers a mini-series to explore Latin and Hispanic music!

Maverick Family Saturdays and Sunday afternoon chamber music concerts are two recurring events hosted at this venue, along with several educational and outreach activities for local communities.
