In 2001 Williams made a comeback on the New York airwaves after being hired by WBLS for a full time syndicated 2–6 p.m. time slot. Adding to the charm of her show Williams’ friend, MC Spice from Boston lent his voiceover talents and frequently incorporated customized rap verses that perfectly suited her show. According to The New York Times the true magic of her show lies in the seamless blend of personal revelations and witty sarcasm. Williams decided to leave her radio show in 2009 in order to dedicate herself to her television program and have quality time with her family. In 2008 Debmar-Mercury gave Williams a six-week television trial for her own talk show. Although Wendy’s World was set to premiere in fall 1997 it never made it to air. However on July 14, 2008, Williams launched her daytime talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, in four cities. The New York Times praised the show during the trial, calling it a “breakthrough in daytime” with its unique “backtalk show” format. Following its success, Fox made a deal with Debmar-Mercury to nationally broadcast the show on their stations starting in July 2009. Additionally, BET acquired the cable rights to air the show at night. By 2010, BET was airing the show in 54 countries through BET International. The show garnered an average of 2.4 million daily viewers with Williams often competing with Ellen DeGeneres for the top spot as the leading female host in daytime television.

In February 2013, Wendy Williams and her husband and manager, Kevin, made an exciting announcement. They were starting their own reality television production company called Wendy Williams Productions. This company would focus on creating unscripted content including reality TV shows and game shows. 

Wendy Williams took on the role of executive producer for the show Celebrities Undercover in 2014. She also worked as an executive producer for a biographical film about Aaliyah, titled Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. The film premiered on November 15, 2014 but unfortunately it received mostly negative reviews and faced controversy due to its casting and portrayal of Aaliyah’s relationship with R. Kelly.

In September 2015, Wendy Williams showcased her hosting and producing skills in the documentary series Death By Gossip with Wendy Williams, which aired on the Investigation Discovery channel. 

Not only was Wendy involved in television productions but she also made her mark on Broadway. In 2013, she was cast in the role of Matron “Mama” Morton in the musical Chicago. Her performance began on July 2 and concluded on August 11, 2013. The TV Guide docuseries Wendy Williams: How You Doin’, Broadway?! documented her preparations for the musical and was produced by her very own production company, Wendy Williams Productions.
